Target Audience

This course is intended for the registered nurse, public health nurse, case manager, LVN, contact investigator, public health technician, and allied health care worker who conducts or assists with TB contact investigations.

 

Format

The format for this course will include lecture presentations, interactive case scenarios, and skill building exercises. There will be ample time for questions and answers.

 

Conference Goal

The goal of this course is to provide information and education about contact investigation as a TB elimination strategy. It will emphasize the importance of contact investigation as a primary means of TB control. Identification of active TB disease by case finding, testing and treatment of contacts, and screening and treating high-risk contacts for latent TB infection (LTBI) will be discussed.

 

Conference Objectives

At the completion of this course, participants will be able to describe the contact investigation guidelines, discuss the impact of HIV infection on contacts, list the steps in a contact investigation, conduct an effective TB interview, prioritize contact investigations and contacts within an investigation, verbalize the medical evaluation and treatment of contacts, and describe the steps involved in a TB contact investigation in a special setting, and effectively assess the completeness of a contact investigation

Heartland National TB Center will offer 10.00 Nursing Continuing Education Credits for successful completion of this educational activity. To obtain contact hours and a Certificate of Successful Completion, nurses must complete and return the Attendance Verification Form and the participant evaluation form.
