Heartland National TB Center is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Centerís Commission on Accreditation.

The format for the course will include lecture presentations with audience discussion and participation. There will be ample time for questions and answers.


This curriculum is designed for the correctional nurse, correctional staff, and local health department staff, especially the public health nurse, who work with inmates with, or at risk of, tuberculosis.


The goal of this training is to enhance the knowledge and management of TB in the correctional setting for the correctional nurse and public health staff who work with jails.


Using interactive lectures, case studies and other types of learning exercises, participants will: increase their basic knowledge of tuberculosis, discuss the tuberculin skin test as a diagnostic tool, describe the role of HIV infection in TB infection, understand jail etiquette and safety; learn how TB disease is handled in a correctional setting, and discuss the importance of contact investigations as a tool to reduce transmission in a correctional setting.
