Target Audience

This course is intended for TB program managers, TB nurse case managers and Local Health Department nurses responsible for the management of patients with, suspects of, tuberculosis.

 

Format

The format for this conference will include lecture presentations, panel discussions, case studies and hands-on skill building exercises. There will be ample time for questions and answers.

 

Conference Goal

The goal of the conference is to provide an in-depth training experience covering the knowledge and skills essential for overseeing the treatment and care of a patient with tuberculosis disease or latent TB infection. The workshop is formatted to go beyond basic TB information and to enhance the participantís ability to be accountable for all facets of TB nurse case management.

 

Conference Objectives

Upon course completion, participants will be able to competently: describe the diagnosis and treatment of TB infection and TB disease; define the role of a TB nurse case manager; employ best practice activities for TB nurse case management; identify indicators of non compliant patients; discuss effective monitoring and evaluation procedures for the successful treatment of a TB patient; critically analyze effectiveness of TB nurse case management processes; and evaluate patient adherence and understanding of the importance of treatment completion.

Attire

The Kansas Highway Patrol Training Academy dress code includes: Departmental uniform or casual attire (includes jeans/Dockers). Apparel unacceptable for wear includes: shorts and tank tops. Additionally, headgear shall not be worn indoors. Exceptions to the above would be the issued Kansas Highway Patrol headgear. Clothing with obscene, vulgar, or suggestive logos, printing, or wording are never in good taste and will not be tolerated. Personal attire and demeanor shall reflect the highest standards. The Training Director may require any person in violation to leave the premises until the deficiency is corrected.

 

Food and Drink

Food is not permitted in any classroom or dormitory room. Drinks may be taken into classrooms with the exception of the computer lab and auditoriums. No noncontracted food items allowed in classrooms, dorm, auditoriums, or cafeteria.

 

Directions to the Kansas Highway Patrol Training Academy

I-70 Access: Exit from I-70 at the Ohio Street exit, (exit #253), and travel south to Iron Avenue, turn left on Iron Avenue, drive east to the top of the hill, and turn left into the KHP Training Academy parking lot. I-35 Access: May processed to I-70 and follow the above routs, or exit at the Crawford Street exit, (exit # 92), onto Crawford and proceed west through town to the Crawford and Ohio Street intersection, turn left on Ohio street, drive to Iron Avenue, (next intersection), turn right, drive to the top of the hill, turn left into the KHP Training Academy parking lot.
