This course is intended for nurses and public health staff who are actively engaged in the case management, identification, and treatment of patients with tuberculosis infection or disease.

The format for this conference will include lecture presentations, and interactive case scenarios. There will be ample time for questions and answers.

The goal of the conference is to provide an in-depth training experience covering the knowledge and skills essential for the nurse with primary responsibility for TB case management. The course is designed to provide coverage of the evaluation, treatment and case management of medically and psychosocially difficult-to-treat patients. The workshop will go beyond the basic TB curriculum and enhance the participant's ability to be accountable for all facets of case management.

Upon course completion, participants will be able to competently practice TB case management including: diagnosing and managing latent TB infection and TB disease; monitoring response to treatment; performing drug toxicity assessments; identifying and managing foreign-born and persons at risk for TB; diagnosing and managing TB in pediatric, HIV-positive and correctional patients; performing case review and quality assurance; balancing responsibilities for public health with patient's needs; assessing adequate infection control measures; and preventing non-compliance through use of DOT and enablers.

The vision of Heartland National TB Center is to provide excellence, expertise, and innovation in training, medical consultation, and product development to reduce the impact of tuberculosis in our region.

The mission of the Heartland National TB Center is to build capacity with our partners. We will share expertise in the treatment and prevention of tuberculosis by: developing and implementing cutting-edge trainings, delivering expert medical consultation, providing technical assistance, and designing innovative educational and consultative products.
