CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS

Heartland National TB Center is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Centerís Commission on Accreditation.

Heartland National TB Center provides 6.5 nursing continuing education contact hours for successful completion of this educational activity.

To obtain contact hours, nurses must complete and return the Certificate of Successful Completion and Attendance Verification Form and the participant evaluation form.

No commercial support was given to Heartland National TB Center or the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler for this educational program.

CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES

Participants will be able to competently demonstrate the interviewing skills necessary to conduct an effective contact investigation; identify key components of investigator field safety; and describe the role and components of directly observed therapy.

FORMAT

The format for the conference will include lecture presentation and skill-building exercises that enhance the ability to interview contacts and administer D.O.T. There will be audience discussion and participation with ample time for questions and answers.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This program targets the nurses and staff assisting with TB contact investigations and administering directly observed therapy (D.O.T.).

CONFERENCE GOAL

The goal of the course is to enhance the expertise of contact investigators in order to improve the prevention and control of tuberculosis in their region.
