Target Audience

This program targets hospital Infection Control Officers; civil surgeons; physicians, advanced practice nurses or other health care workers actively engaged in the management of adult and pediatric patients with, or at risk of, tuberculosis.



The format for the conference is lecture and case presentation with audience discussion and participation. There will be ample time for questions and answers.


Conference Goal

The goal of the program is to increase the awareness of TB by enhancing the knowledge and practice of community health care providers in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with TB.


Conference Objectives

Using highly interactive lectures, participants will be able to: list the current epidemiology of TB around the globe and in their community; describe the transmission and pathogenesis of TB; compare the use and interpretation of the tuberculin skin test (TST) versus the interferon gamma release assays (IGRA) in adults and children; identify the treatment options and their protocols for TB disease; discuss the diagnosis, management, and treatment of multi-drug resistant TB; recognize and manage extrapulmonary TB; discuss TB and HIV co-infection; and describe the diagnosis and management of pediatric TB.

CNE: Heartland National TB Center is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.


Heartland National TB Center will offer 7.25 Nursing continuing education hours for successful completion of this educational activity.


CME: The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler is accredited by the Texas Medical Association to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. UTHSCT provides up to 7.0 CME contact hours for completion of this course.
