1Per 100,000 population. 2The
large decrease in 1979 occurred because late effects of tuberculosis
(e.g., bronchiectasis or fibrosis) and pleurisy with effusion
(without mention of cause) are no longer included in tuberculosis
deaths. 3 Preliminary data obtained from National
Center for Health Statistics National Vital Statistics Report,
Vol. 51, No. 5, March 13, 2003.
Ellipses indicate data not available.
Note: Official tuberculosis mortality statistics are compiled
by the National Center for Health Statistics, CDC. Case data
after 1974 are not comparable to prior years due to changes
in the surveillance case definition that became effective in
1975.
